I published this in Apr 2024 and on rereading it, have since realized that it was impulsive, opinionated and itself divisive or incendiary. While my reading of fiction gave me a good understanding of the maladies that wreaked havoc on this world, its only my history teacher who has opened my eyes and let me put faces to the atrocities committed in the clashes of culture and peoples we have had in the last 3000 years.
I hope earnestly that a new age will dawn when humankind puts it's energies to express love instead of defiling and desecrating the human or divine spirit.
Dear Over-zealous Anyone,
As long time pacifist and a lover of the principle of love as taught in Jonathan Livingston Seagull, I would like to make a few observations.
If it's true that India has to be great for humanity's sake as Sri Aurobindo so rightly puts it in his Independence Day Speech of 1947, then I must say frankly the very word decolonisation puts me off.
Greatness lies not in who we reject, but what past we can forgive and move on from.
If it's indeed true that, as Vrekhem so beautifully put it in his video on Theodicy that nature makes no mistakes... Then who are we to judge a few entire countries and their living progeny for the atrocities committed during the "colonial" era.

It has been said that India would be a superpower if she stopped tripping over her own feet.
Well, within that superpower, I am a would-be engineer. Why would be? Because our country doesnt really produce engineers. Imagine a state with nearly 300 engineering colleges, all teaching the same syllabi in the various disciplines.
We produce a phenomenal number of 'engineers' each year. What do some of their best do? They go abroad to do their MSes. How many of them come back to work in industry in India? 5% was one report I heard.
What do the rest of them do? They try for admission in B Schools because Lord knows that's where the best pay is.
By this time, the stock of smart young people is nearly depleted. Some of those remaining love this country and try to start something here.
Many wiser ones know that to accomplish anything here is a long uphill task. Just beginning anything is tough enough due to a variety of state-imposed reasons.
So they look for places abroad, promising to come back someday and make a difference. How many of these actually do?
This leads to the situation popularly called brain drain in our country. In a world of BPOs, B Schools and jobs abroad, where have all the engineers gone?
With foreign investment pouring in the way it is, what prevents us from tasking some of these 'engineers' to R&D in cutting edge technology in our OWN country.
Where is the encouragement for students who want exposure to the many diverse, integrally important, disciplines necessary for these sorts of jobs?
Entrepreneurship? In a country where it takes 69 days on average to start a company when in others it takes but a single day.
We've lost pride in our country. How long is it since the simple words Jai Hind stirred any feeling in our hearts?
Where is the educational reform a million staff and students alike yearn for?
To be like other societies where professors also carry out research! TO have a flexible environment where, progress is not determined by marks scored but rather by things learnt, where all academic institutions encourage any kind of related learning.

It is not in our nature as a peoples to break away from the norms and do what we think is right, even if it is for the greater good of the nation - nay, even for our children. Instead, we take the easy way out & look for opportunities abroad.
So the secret is to unleash that potential passion in each one of us Indians.
Ours is a mix of many diverse cultures, each (for the most part) living in harmony. And that is one of the few things that makes this coutry great.
The two cornerstones I see for this country becoming a superpower are education and infrastructure. We have the means at our disposal, we simply need to bring about an attitude change in our people. We need to make them feel proud. Proud enough to stay here and then, in due course, make those who left feel like returning to a prospering place such as the ones they sought.
From what I've heard of the treatment we get in other countries and the lack of social completeness, I know that many of us Indians want desperately to come back. It is only family to suport here, the lack of job opportunities and inefficiency of the prevalent system that drives them to linger abroad.
We need also to tackle the over-population problems. We must build new cities, streamline our government. There are simply too many political parties for anything but chaos to reign.
I remember that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel integrated 563 pricely states just before our Independance. Well today, we need someone to do the same with the (nearly as many) political parties, if we wish to emerge as a superpower in the everchanging lanscape of tomorrow.
Then we can think of streamlining the system. I believe that there aren't too many young people in politics. What we need to do is make the ladder easier to climb and not chock full of old leeches clinging on and sucking our Nation's blood - beaureaucracy in every form throughout our government and coty officials.
Ideally, as youngsters, we should begin with social service. Nothing serious, just a fraternity where social issues can be discussed and dealt with. I believe that it is the young who truly hve vision in this country, and the energy, werewithal and the time to make their dreams come true.
So, by the end of our teens, we have been inducted into this fictitious "social service club". And through that club, we are exposed to different wings of government and corporation functioning.
Then we can join as aides in any department, and we are given some powers of discretion and leeway.

A religious person means one who loves life and can find contentment. Religion teaches us the secrets of life. The stories narrated each have their meaning, significance and purpose. But stories are not told for themselves, but for their moral and their learning.
First, do understand that whatever I say will never in a million years take you one millimeter further from Mohammed / Christ / Krishna / Buddha. They are beings I wish I could begin to be like in a 1000 years. the ideal. For the rest of this essay, I will refer to Christ, but the arguments can be fitted to any religion / spiritual leader.
Lets forget for a minute that Christ is God. For after all he did chose to come down in human form in which time he was called Jesus Christ. And he didn't do it to amuse himself. He had a specific purpose. So lets try to understand the real significance of his coming down to earth.
He came down to save us all? No! He came down to show us all what love was. What life was. And he cared for us all. And because he loved us so deeply, with every fibre in his body, his father gave him the power to heal the sick for he was so moved by the love that poured out of his son's core.
His son tried to explain to us all the meaning of life. But we were too busy ogling at his miracles that we forgot his words and his teachings. Do you think it would mean more to Jesus that we all prayed to him or rather, that we followed his teachings?
Yes, we all go to church to learn about his life and the good things that he taught.
But how did God take care of his children before he sent down his only son to save us all? he gave us all a conscience. And that conscience is the inner voice that tells us all through our life what good is and what bad is.
It's that voice that tells us killing is bad. Look at the hatred religion has brought; and the bloodshed. And what makes it all possible? Religion! For its a passion that we let stir in our hearts, thinking that it will take us closer to God. And twisted minds use it to turn us against our brothers.

It's only the religious person they can poison. People who over years of faith and belief have stopped listening to the voice inside their head, but rather to the man on the pulpit. And all of a sudden, one day he tells us of the evil the people in the temple are doing.
How each day they spurn the sacrifice of Jesus and popularize idol worship - the very evil that Jesus sought to destroy. And because we've stopped listening to the voice in our heads, we believe him implicitly.
When in fact, those idol worshipers are no different from us. And Jesus didn't come here to stop anybody. He came here to spread the message of love!
But the seed has already been cast, and it doesn't take long for us to begin to distance ourselves from the other community. This dissent is sped up by similar propaganda spread from the other pulpits, until an atmosphere of distrust reigns.
And once that foundation of distrust is built, they start feeding words to incite us. Dont believe me? You can see its effects all over the world, just turn on the news.
Wonder why I seem to be addressing Christians? Well it not that they're especially bad! We're all fools who've forgotten to listen to our own conscience all of us. once we start forming a community based on religion, we're already doomed.
I mean how many Muslims donate to Christian charities. Or anything of the sort?
We'll under the skin we are all the same. We were all created in His image. But why then do those very same doors that preached equality all these years, now so subtly start pointing out the differences between our communities, and how we're the persecuted peoples.

And this guy has had enough. and he yells at us to stop.

For now he becomes the devil, come to play tricks on us as cheat us of our place in heaven. at least so they make us believe.
And were such blood-maddened souls that we even kill him. and who is he really? the gentle reminder in each of us of the love that was once Jesus and Rama and Mohammed and Buddha. Does it really matter if I forget a few names? must anyone be offended? after all they were all members of a higher community, each man serving in his place the vast multitude that is Earth.

This is an appreciation for the Philip Pullman novel, where the hero Dan Goldberg stops two conflicted factions (Christian and Jew) from fighting by telling them a story of how the Oligarchs (controlling few) have exploited them and set them to fight with each other with propaganda. There was a contest between Fartbelly, the beguiler of the powers-that-be and Dan Goldberg.
Both wove their magic with the sheer clarity and detail of the stories they told. Watching them contend reminds me of when Bhishma or Drona or Karna were fighting in that Dharmakshetre when the Gods themselves would come to watch.
One fought to destroy, divide and defile, pouring oil on dying embers. Daniel stood tall that day, at the battle of telegraph road, pg 117, saving 2 clans from damnation and destruction.
What a story he told! He told of fartbelly and how the enemy was always waiting to keep the plebians down in the mud. The enemy - the forces that be, whose utter destruction we all root for.
I don't remember who said it, but someone mighty wise said - give love a chance, give freedom a chance, give evolution a chance. Why? Because we are all here to love, evolve and enjoy freedom while doing that!
Destructuon, not of their physical bodies, but of the lower tendencies they have, the utter lust for power, the pettiness, the trysts with the devilish forces, the disregard for human life and everything decent and wholesome.
Daniel's story? That hit home hard. That we are akin to each other in our grit and determination in the face of hardship. That only if we live in ignorance of the facts that every last person is pure at heart and deserves warmth and love, are we less than we ought to be, found wanting in the maker's plan?

I have many favourites (for differing reasons), but today I want to talk about a not-so-well-known book called "Curious Lives" by Richard Bach, published in 2005 and dubbed "Adventure Fables from an Enchanting World".
I strongly believe that this book contains the seed for building a better world. Richard Bach has not only managed to rescue a civilization from the brink of annihilation by war, he has shown in vivid and telling detail how a new way can be lived, breathed, built.
I treasure it above all other books and rate it the game changer for our own Pale Blue Dot, Earth when it goes viral and its spirit is fully understood across the globe. You know it's going to be dazzling and inspiring when you read the following in the preface:
"I stand today, bored to stone with dramas about evil, films about war and malice and crime. I promised that if I had to watch one more prison scene, one more aggression, one more gigantic spectacular stupendous explosion on-screen, fiction or non, I'd walk out and rebuild the universe."
Let's rebuild the universe, we have after all the power to do so in the choices we make, the interactions we treasure.

Problem Statement
In our grandparents generation, people were preoccupied with the War Effort and mass communication was limited or one way.
In our parents generation, there was freedoms to work and think and families to an extent started becoming nuclear. There was a burst in reading and learning as the world became smaller. Their's was the generation of the 60s to 70s and most things were won by the sweat of their brow.
Our generation grew up in comparable luxury with well meaning parents spoiling us in a sense. Left to our own, we got used to everything going our way and so felt "entitled" to certain basic things and certain pleasures.
It was natural for over protective parents to want to give their children everything, little did they realise that by doing so, they were not preparing them adequately for the cold harsh world.
Now we're in the 2020s with most of our youth and even the younger parents feeling they are entitled to this or that.
Truth is, there is much poverty in the world, and uncertainty. People lose jobs, people fall ill, breadwinners die, skills become obsolete, we have mid life crises, we glorify money and comforts and become soft.
These should be as alarm bells, telling us to pursue something more wholesome, not fleeting. But here we are in the Entitlement trap, watching each day as our children become more and more petulant and demanding, with neither parent having the time to really understand their psyche or extricate them from this trap.
Poverty, lack of access to food, water, education, human trafficking, the refugee crisis, wars and overpopulation all take their toll on society and if our children are not made sensitive to these, how will they understand / face / combat these?
A Teacher's Perspective
In my class I have 20 children. Some rich, some poor, some given freedoms, some stifled. I've seen enough of humanity to know that nothing is black and white.
It's a little rare, but sometimes I see wealthy kids taught to value other's and money/possessions. Just fortunate to have grounded elders in their families I suppose.
Some don't realize the value of money until they have seen poverty firsthand. Some poor children are taught to never let that seem a handicap, instead they are rich in the coin of spirit.
I only wish that today's children could break down the barriers between their classes, statuses and poises and given a chance to know intimately the beginnings of each other's parents lives amd their own, for then, the riddle of this world would seem a little less.

Gaia is the name we have chosen for our Abundance Series. Welcome, here we will listen lovingly to your story, offer a comforting hug to put a smile on your lips and stay by your side until you gush forth with gaiety and feel like spreading love like wildfire.
This month of August 2020 marks the beginning of my 8th year cradling a child known affectionately as YieldMore. 7 years ago I wrote of the numbers of our bright ones and the effulgence of our Mother.
That mother's name is Gaia, defined here as:
Quite simply, Gaia is life. She is all, the very soul of the earth. She is a goddess who, by all accounts, inhabits the planet, offering life and nourishment to all her children. In the ancient civilizations, she was revered as mother, nurturer and giver of life. She goes by many names.
Tolkien speaks lovingly of her as Yavanna Kementari.
In this month I will record my ideas and articles on how you can colour your life as I try to do the same for myself and my family.
It all begins with a little journal. You can use ink, voice memos, a word file (I use google) or social media as you like.

Tolkien, in his creation myth describes angelic beings orchestrating the blueprint of creation using music. The Ainur are given free will with which to change the music, and so are we.
Don't feel trapped and isolate yourself. Breathe in deeply and let your pent up feelings come to the fore. It's alright to give in to a low and to cry. It's all a part of the healing process. No one knows why we are made to endure such hardship or suffer a lack of faith and bravado, but chin up - we CAN control how we feel and we can invest in things that make our lives better.
Music is condensed emotion and it can lift your any mood. I have curated non romantic songs on YM Legacy which you can browse but I suggest you go down memory lane and find gems that have moved / inspired you to greater heights.
Forbearance
I sometimes quail at the thought of all the goings on in my life that I can't control and feel stretched to the point of collapse but then find myself reaching out to a loved one who gives me the courage to go on.
The greatest quality one can possess is titiksha or forbearance - likened here to "shock absorbers" or the certainty that "this too shall pass".
Life is hard I know and sometimes we don't know know where to turn. But invest in yourself and your future and watch slowly as life takes on fresh meaning.
Hang in there… you are special beyond measure… as this lady with the fork said "the best is yet to come".
Support Circle
I hope you have friends and loved ones who can listen and make you laugh and hold your hand and offer a shoulder to cry on. Think who it is that makes your support circle, how they make you feel better, how you can repay them or pay it forward, helping those hapless souls who have no one to turn to.
Our Future
If you need to heal, take your time. Remember every difficulty we overcome, we overcome as a species. We live in trying times where our nightmarish past struggles with our glorious future. Evolution is working its way forward, washing away the ill feeling of the past millennia until World War II took place, after which evolution took a step forward, paving the way for the revolution of the 60s.
Remember as The Mother said in 1914,
The Lord has willed and Thou dost execute: A new Light shall break upon the earth. A new world shall be born And the things that were promised shall be fulfilled'

They say you can see a hologram of the universe in someone's eyes. That is most apparent when they smile.

Problems
They say you can either fight your way through a problem or you can bypass it by going around it. Instead of saying "I'm unhappy, what can I do about it?", try stopping analysing and scrutinizing your feelings, let go and "enjoy the moment".

As the Garuda Purana says (see link below on control), we plan our lives to the finest details. I like to think we plan the outcomes and the details get fine tuned as the exact happenings play out with each others' improvisations to the script.
In this sense, the outcomes are like the gifts we seek and the problems (circumstances) come to impel us towards finding the solutions or give us the context to understand the meanings of what we want to learn.
Life Purpose
As they say, "the purpose of life is a life of purpose". What more joy than to have a purpose in life and the inspiration to tread the path towards achieving that purpose.
Seven years ago I had a vision to build a knowledge base as a dear professor once asked me to. I felt what if we could collaboratively compile all the good and useful stuff, be inspired to explore the beautiful world out there, learn to contemplate within and express ourselves and our feelings? What if we were given examples of everyday heroes we could relate to and interact with and work beside? What if we worked to establish our dreams instead or reliving our nightmares? What if we could yield more and learn to live the life divine, a life where we lived and breathed as ONE collective?
That is the purpose. I'm yet to find the inspiration to effect it, the clarity of thought on how to achieve it, and the (dozens of) people necessary to make it a living fact. Inshallah or god willing, the days of waiting with uncertainty and doubt will soon be over.
What is your life purpose? Set aside ample time to find out and look around you to these heroes and their movements until you feel it in your bones intuitively.
Remember the progression Explore, Emote, Experience, Express. The journey begins with our keen observation and then finding something that we can connect with, something that moves us - that we can emote with. Expression is important for only then will we understand our purpose or what "our verse" can be.

Catalyse change and action for and by humanity…
What if 700 million people already spoke a language. The language of love, peace and goodwill. They walk the path of truth and want to relentlessly pursue / lead a Life Divine.
What if .01% of those, or 70,000 people were already busy building the dreams we have for a brighter tomorrow. These are [sometimes ordinary] heroes / lightworkers trying to establish the Life Divine.
Those 70,000 people are busy holding up their flags and establishing / proclaiming their worth. What if a coalition could be formed and instead of working counter to each other in some small way, we could all work in unison. What if we organized ourselves by the movements we participate in, the causes we champion - how can these movements in unison self organize?
Where does change need to be effected?
In every aspect / walk of life. In the classroom, in the bedroom, in the boardroom and in the coffee shop, in the stadium, on the street, in the jailhouse, in the temple. The desire to change people's lives cannot be only for a certain region / type of people - it has to permeate everywhere.
How can you catalyse change?
Heroes need for their stories to be told. Organizations need to attract the right sort of believers, supporters etc. People need to share their stories, heal from the trauma of the past / the social issues that burn close to their hearts, find like minded people to espouse their cause and an easy way to find sincere people whose work to expand on / augment.
As per the divine plan, there's already plenty of Acts of Kindness going around in the world. We need these acts to be magnified and become a part of everyday life.
We need that magical number of 700,000 people to grow manifold. The surest way to convince someone about the Life Divine is to reach out and touch them - a commitment to love our fellow creatures - show it, do it, mean it.

The process of making software is a testimony to how ingenious we are! That is, after all why we call it "Engineering" - whose root is "ingenuity". It trains the brain to razor-sharpness and then gives us lease to use that brain to reflect on the system of chaos around us.

In no other area do we clash as furiously as on the subject of religion. However, as they say, "The true office of religion is to bring out the whole nature of man in harmonious activity". It is also true that "while religion prescribes brotherly love in the relations among individuals and groups, the actual spectacle more resembles a battlefield than an orchestra.".
So why this way off the mark difference between intention and reality? Because the stories we tell our children about their faith are, to outward appearances, different from religion to religion, sect to sect.. and because everyone is convinced that for their story to be right, everyone else's story has to be wrong or to quote a seer "other systems are either errors or saved only by such partial truth in them as links them to the one true philosophical cult".
That one true philosophical cult is ours, period. There our journey in closed mindedness begins. Fortunately, some of us are more open to new ideas than others.
I say we are like a class of swimmers learning to dive. We're on the diving platform and afraid to let go of our upbringing and its ways. We're afraid someone will find fault with our childhood beliefs and poof, we'll be left grasping at nothing. Some of us have already let go of our fears and accomplished the feat of diving.
I'm afraid of the water, afraid I can't swim, afraid of being made fun of and afraid of all my pent up emotions. I lash out at someone down in the water below but of the two of us, who needs the support and nurturing more? Me, the guy who hasn't yet made the leap of faith.
I implore you, o swimmers in the ocean of spirituality. That timid, afraid boy standing on the platform, fearful of letting go, embracing the water, could be your brother, son or mother. Be gentle with him. In the waters of religious pluralism, it's not about who is right, but who can put aside their own convictions and embrace the one who differs vastly from them in their own beliefs. A good country it is that takes its responsibilities seriously, not just to its citizens but to the foreign Nationals that live in its borders, to its own children that fate seeks to plant elsewhere - ambassadors of its goodness who bring its best characteristics to the global melting pot - the best not the worst.
